Alumbra is best described as back alley Casablanca meets New York chic. The sleek and contemporary bar is surrounded by lush, Moroccan inspired features all housed in a historic 1882 wharf shed giving Alumbra a lofty, warehouse feel.
Key design elements include intricate tribal screens suspended over the bar, filtered lighting from the shed’s exposed ceiling, a 120 year old heritage listed shiprighter’s workshop transformed into a booth, and a private mezzanine. Traditional Middle Eastern artefacts are scattered throughout the venue.
In contrast to this old-world charm, the bathrooms are ultra modern and give new meaning to the word unisex, as the only thing that separates the cubicles from the rest of the bar is a floor to ceiling wall of glass - a talking point that will ensure your function is not forgotten!
Out on the wharf, Alumbra offers a fully landscaped deck that leads right to the river’s edge.
FUNCTIONS
Situated at the end of Central Pier’s historic runway and housed in a 1914 heritage-listed cargo shed, Alumbra is an authentic warehouse conversion with an opulent penthouse feel.
The sleek illuminated bar, specially commissioned glass chandeliers and candy-striped carpets in luscious pink and purple hues are juxtaposed against the weathered, rustic features of Shed 9 - giving Alumbra an edgy, underground feel.
A destination venue to be discovered and explored, Alumbra is surrounded on three sides by water and offers 360-degree views of the Docklands precinct, Bolte Bridge and city skyline - making its heated deck the perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down.
Modular in design and with a host of intimate spaces to uncover, it can accommodate up to 600 people across the main bar, function space and lounge-style mezzanine Privé, which offers table service, bottle storage and supper until 11pm.
Other key features include an impressive glass dance floor which provides views down into the waters of Victoria Harbour, so you can watch the fish swim by while you kick up your heels. Alumbra’s signature Buddha iconography and lattice screens are featured in and around the main bar. The venue also includes an exclusive VIP lounge for intimate gatherings of 12 people or less, complete with back entry and a buzzer for waiter service.
Alumbra’s chameleon-like qualities become apparent throughout the day. It effortlessly evolves from a casual daytime vibe – serving coffees and drinks - to refined glamour in the evening, before transforming into the perfect backdrop for indulgent celebrations late into the night.
