Amongst many CD collections, you will probably find a Wild compilation hidden beneath the ‘respectable’ albums. Nevertheless, you can’t deny the ongoing success of the Wild empire, especially when they’ve churned out over 25 releases within the last 10 years. Their most recent EDM-entry-level compilation named Trance Anthems boasts three discs full of obligatory trance ‘classics’, as well as some incorrectly categorised tech-trance and house.

The discs are unmixed and crossfade from one to the other rapidly to allow more tracks on each CD; and unfortunately the composer didn’t put much thought into structuring the track progression. We continuously jump from melodic uplifting trance, to slower proggier tracks and get confused by the pacing. Also, the printed track listing fails to acknowledge the correct remixes of certain songs, and even disrespects the William Orbit track Adagio For Strings by labeling it as Tiesto’s version.

However, interspersed between the cheesy vocal trance are gems that guarantee some hands-in-the-air action, such as System F’s Out of the Blue, Veracocha’s Carte Blanche, PUSH’s Universal Nation and Motorcycle’s As the Rush Comes. To the inexperienced listener, this compilation offers a fun, wide selection of tracks that cover trance well enough.
