Cologne-based Acid Techno pioneer and innovative minimalist Techno and House producer, Robert Babicz (aka Rob Acid) is a figure of unmeasurable influential impact on the German electronic music scene right from the beginning. He's released five albums and countless maxi singles on labels like Systematic, Kompakt, Audiomatique, Punkt, Force Inc, Mille Plateaux, Bpitch Control, Barbarella, Treibstoff and Out Of Orbit and is known for his incredible studio including old analogue equipment from the 60s and 70s alongside an array of computers, classic drum machines, EQs the size of living rooms used by the German Secret Service and compressors used by East German radio stations. Those who have followed Robert’s career over the years know that his sound and the standard of his productions reach almost audiophile standards.
From his Acid House rave anthems that stormed the European charts in the early nineties and the monstrous Acid Techno classics he released as Rob Acid, to the sparse and minimalist Ambient electronica he produced in the late nineties, it wasn't until 2004 that we saw the rebirth of Robert Babicz as we know him today. Over the next few years releases of truly infectious quality, such as 'Battlestar', 'Look', 'Mister Head', 'Weekend', 'Prism', 'My Blue Car' and 'Markateck' stormed across the world and high-profile DJs from multiple genres praised, played and embraced his new sound. In 2007 Robert released his latest album 'A Cheerful Temper' on Systematic Recordings, also featuring 12" releases for the monster tunes 'Sin', 'Crystal Castle', 'Imperial Star' and 'Losing Memories'. Moving between the genres of Electronica, Techno, Minimal and classic House, 'A Cheerful Temper' is indeed a very special and genre-breaking album full of beautiful electronic club music.
First touring to Australia in June 2007, he played a mammoth two and a half hour live set to a sold-out crowd at the now legendary Blow Your Own Way event at FFour on Queen's Birthday Eve. So impressed was he by this gig he immediately wrote a track in his hotel room entitled 'A Night In Melbourne', which was promptly released on Treibstoff Recordings in late 2007. Babicz does not play as a DJ but as a real live act without any playbacks. All of his shows are distinctive and individual as he never performs the same songs and sounds. He has been on an extended worldwide album tour throughout 2007 and 2008, and with new EP's 'Dark Flower' on Audiomatique and 'Don't Look Back' on Kompakt, the Babicz sound continues. Don't miss his hugely anticipated return for a string of exclusive performances across the country.
