Last week we reported on the call from a government scientist to declassify Ecstasy from a Class A to B- citing the Professor’s inconclusive findings on the drugs effects
An article in today’s Metro seems to counter the claim, reporting on recent research which suggests that taking just 6 pills can give you brain damage.
Research has shown that as few as six tablets can cause changes to the brain that show up on scans.
The brains of young people who had taken ecstasy were compared with others who had never touched the drug. Researchers saw clear brain damage to brain cells I users but none in the brains of non-users.
The study also showed that even low doses of the drug could affect memory.
Spokesman Dr Martjee de Win of Amsterdam University, said it was not clear whether the damage was permanent or temporary.
